Complete Environmental Services offers an environmental clearing house service for developers, industry,  mines, private clients or anyone who might need environmental authorization for any proposed project.

We offer a unique service, assisting clients FREE OF CHARGE to find out if environmental authorization is needed, and if so which process(es) should most likely be followed. We will evaluate your project proposal and determine which process is required according to the current legislation and if any other environmental permits, licenses or permissions are likely to apply to the project. Please note that the final decision in this regard lies with the lead authority and should be confirmed with them before the application is submitted. The accuracy of this evaluation will depend on the completeness of the information provided to us.

Complete Environmental Services will not conduct the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process themselves but will put you, the proponent, in touch  with the leading Environmental Assessment Practitioners (EAPs) and Environmental Specialists in Southern Africa, working in the vicinity of your proposed project.

In order to ensure that practitioners and specialists have a proven track record they will have the opportunity to submit authorized projects to the project map page. In order to view the resources offered by this site please register as a user and then login.

This site will also provide valuable information, links and resources to EAPs and specialists as well as a forum where positive and negative experience can be shared and online assistance can be found.

Company Profile

Retha Weir started her career as Environmental Officer at the National Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism in Pretoria in 1993. After spending six years as a specialist working first in the field of environmental education and later wetland ecology she transferred to the EIA section where she evaluated EIA projects on national level. In 2000 she went into private practice as a consultant at a large environmental consultancy with the responsibility of managing and coordination Scoping and  EIA processes as well as drafting Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) for a variety of projects and developments.

With this experience and expertise, Retha started Complete Environmental Services in 2002, over the next 8 years Retha manage and coordinated a large variety of  EIA processes for project ranging from new lodge developments, housing developments, pipelines, roads, CCA timber treatment plants and mining projects.

During this time and with the experience gained from working both within the government and the private sectors, the realization came that clients and developers need much more information in order to help them understand the EIA process, environmental authorization, environmental legislation and what is expected of them as well as what these processes entail in term of planning and timeframes.

Clients or applicants need assistance in understanding:

• when to apply for environmental authorization;
• what is involved in an EIA process;
• which process to apply for;
• how long it will take to get authorization or even just feedback from the authorities;
• who has to be notified during an EIA process;
• what specialist studies are needed;
• what is the role of Interested and Affected Parties (I&APs) and
• who to approach to conduct an EIA.

This website will assist applicants in answering most of their questions before they start with an EIA or environmental authorization process. In time this site will be developed to assist applicants to use approved project to see who has completed similar projects in which areas in order to "predict" the outcome of their environmental authorization.
